Our Water Planning team is currently seeking to create a talent pool for upcoming expected Senior Water Planners roles.

In this role you will:

  • Provide informed advice and technical services
  • Analyse priority issues, initiate research and consultation activities
  • Develop and implement strategies for community consultation
  • Lead and manage projects to address policy or planning issues
  • Prepare advice in the form of briefs, policy and discussion papers on key water sharing issues to respond to Ministerial, Cabinet or Departmental requests
  • Prepare a range of communication materials and consultation activities to support the water planning and management process

You would be joining a team tasked with replacing and amending water sharing plans which: protect the fundamental environmental health of the water source, provide water users with a clear picture of when and how water will be available for extraction, and ensure the water source is sustainable in the long-term. This involves a mix of technical data interpretation and review of environmental and socio-economic information, developing options to resolve issues, applying policy to achieve better outcomes, working on public exhibition documents and stakeholder engagement.

About You

Our successful candidates will undertake a range of complex analytic and research activities, stakeholder consultation, and manage projects to provide sound and reliable input to the delivery of the NSW Government’s water sharing planning process, consistent with the State’s and Commonwealth’s water reform agenda and relevant legislation.

You will have knowledge or experience related to water management, environmental science, or natural resource management, and experience working with legislation, regulation or policy related to these fields. To be successful in the role, you will also be a strong communicator, who thrives in a team environment and enjoys collaborative work.

The following knowledge/experience will be highly regarded, but are not mandatory for consideration:

  • Extensive backgrounds in water related areas such as water planning, water policy, natural resource management, environmental science, aquatic ecology, geomorphology, and hydrology.
  • Understanding of the State and Commonwealth Government’s water reform agendas, and legislative and policy requirements regarding water sharing plans and water resource plans
