Description:
Position: Design Engineer – Primary Electrical
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop both conceptual and detailed plans for primary electrical disciplines, including drafting and conducting various studies.
- Evaluate and review designs for primary disciplines, focusing on single line diagrams, substation layouts, elevations, and more, including cables, earthing, and other primary studies.
- Assist the Engineering Manager with interdisciplinary design reviews, including safety in design, HAZID, HAZCON, and HAZOP.
- Address Requests for Information (RFIs) related to primary disciplines from the project team.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and bench tests as required.
- Create concept designs for primary disciplines for tender submissions and feasibility studies.
- Support the Engineering Manager in managing and engaging consultants.
- Collaborate with the project team, clients, and stakeholders to develop optimized and innovative solutions for primary design elements.
- Conduct technical investigations and feasibility studies to assess the viability and risks of proposed primary designs.
- Develop and/or review technical specifications and documentation related to equipment and primary design elements.
- Coordinate with external vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials for primary designs.
- Participate in site inspections and project meetings to ensure design compliance and provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and standards, implementing best practices to enhance efficiency and quality.
Skills:
- A minimum of 7 years of local experience in high voltage (HV) and renewable infrastructure projects.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with AS 2067.
- Experience working with Network Service Providers (NSP) or contractors.
- Proficiency in primary design, including substation layout, cable studies, electrical clearance, short-circuit forces, EMF/Corona studies, earthing studies, lighting studies, etc.
- Familiarity with HV equipment such as power transformers, disconnectors, and surge arrestors.
- Knowledge of power cables, aerial conductors, electrical fittings, and related materials.
- Proficiency in AUTOCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Hands-on experience with commissioning and testing of primary equipment is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of regulatory permits and approvals related to primary disciplines is highly preferred.
- Experience in conducting primary studies for HV and renewable infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with NSP design guidelines and safety guidelines.
- Experience with HV transmission line design is preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical principles and best practices for electrical safety and asset protection in critical infrastructure projects.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Based in Sydney, full-time position.
