Senior Design Engineer Responsibilities

The role of the Senior Design Engineer is wide-ranging and will involve detailed product design using the latest state-of-the-art technology and components, including full testing and evaluation. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Identify lighting product needs for the business and the design and development of new lighting luminaires from concept through to product validation and completion.
• Knowledge of current standards and approvals.
• Managing the production of CAD drawings, bill of materials, and technical specifications for completed lighting designs.
• Creating specification and data sheets for the company’s products.
• Value engineering of existing products.
• Completion of Lighting Layout Designs on a project-by-project basis to a good standard.
• Liaison with suppliers to introduce the latest technologies within the business.
• Manufacturing and Sales support.

This is a senior role reporting to the Managing Director and will carry a certain amount of responsibility. The role will require the following:

• Ideally educated to a minimum HND/HNC standard in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an engineering design role in the lighting or a related industry.
• A working knowledge of Solidworks 3D CAD is essential, and knowledge of Relux Lighting Design software would be an advantage.
• An ability to communicate at all levels within the business and the ability to present designs and solutions directly to the customer.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work effectively in a team environment.

‘Hybrid’ working is possible as we are pretty flexible in this regard, and the start date is also pretty flexible, but we would ideally like someone in before the end of the year.
