Provide specialised project investigation, engineering survey, design and drafting services at an advanced level from project concept through to detailed design construction plans.
Assist in preparing work programs/schedule based on received briefs.
Advise senior officers on technical matters.
Coordinate with construction staff, statutory authorities, and other Council units to ensure best practices.
Prepare cost-effective engineering design plans using computer-aided design methods, practical knowledge, and technical standards.
Provide specialised civil engineering design and drafting services from project concept through to detailed design.
Resolve design issues during both the planning and construction phases.
Provide guidance and support to technical staff within the Design and Construction Unit.
Collaborate closely with the Team Leader Design to ensure projects are delivered on time.
Survey and Construction
Collect, analyse, and utilise survey data for designs.
Responsibilities
Provide accurate and timely advice and solutions aligned with policies and budgets.
Maintain high standards in technical work and decision-making processes.
Support the development of departmental policies and procedures.
Although an employee may be appointed to a particular position, Council may ask for duties to be carried out in other areas that are within their range of skills, competence, and training.
Desired Skills and ExperienceKey Selection Criteria
A formal tertiary qualification in civil engineering or a related field, along with relevant experience.Advanced proficiency in computer-aided engineering design and drafting, including expertise in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.Extensive knowledge of engineering design principles for urban and rural roadworks, stormwater drainage, and traffic facilities.Proven ability to manage time effectively, set priorities, plan and organise work, and oversee multiple design projects simultaneously.Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills, with a focus on delivering practical and effective solutions.Essential qualifications and experienceA minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent AQF Level 7), with 2–5 years of relevant experience, or a lesser formal qualification combined with extensive (10+ years) professional experience.
A current and valid driver’s license.
Desirable qualifications and experienceKnowledge of local government operations and responsibilities.
Mandatory requirementsProof of formal qualifications (e.g., Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent).
Compliance with workplace safety and occupational health standards as required by the organization.
