Longitude Insurance is a leading strata underwriting agency in the Australian insurance market, and is part of Austagencies Pty Ltd, a company that employs over 170 industry professionals throughout Australia. We are currently seeking an experienced and professional Senior Technical Underwriter to work in our North Sydney office, ideally with a Strata insurance background but Property, SME or Affinity business will also be considered. However, it is crucial that the candidate is used to working in a volume business as the workload is significant and the ability to work accurately whilst under pressure is a prerequisite of this position.

The responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical mentoring, training and guidance to underwriting team, including onboarding of new starters.
  • Act as technical referral point and source of knowledge for underwriting team.
  • Compile and deliver structured internal training sessions to underwriting team.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationship with security provider.
  • Undertake individual underwriting audits to determine competency levels, including for the purpose of increasing authority levels.
  • Underwrite profitable business within a delegated underwriting authority through trading with Brokers, including complex and large new business and renewal risks.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant underwriting experience with at least 3 years as a senior underwriter
  • Previous training and development experience is highly regarded
  • Ability to work in a busy team environment, work under pressure and multi-task. Our team of underwriters produce in the range of 80-100 quotes per week
  • Ideally, Certificate IV in General Insurance, a knowledge of Risks Management issues faced by organisations and basic accounting and claims procedures.
