Casual Academic Teaching Staff – Early Childhood Education (UniSC Adelaide)
University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) has partnered with the Education Centre of Australia (ECA), opening a new campus in Adelaide in 2024, located at 182 Victoria Square. The campus offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs for international students, with a new Early Childhood Education program commencing in mid-2025.
We are seeking to appoint suitably qualified and experienced individuals to teach new and current courses (subjects) in the:
- Bachelor of Education Studies (Early Childhood)
You will work closely with the Academic Lead- Early Childhood Education to ensure that all courses are delivered and assessed to the requirements of the University; and any external agencies/ professional bodies.
Successful candidates will need to start in time for commencement of classes in Trimester 2 2025 (July). You will be employed by ECA as a casual academic employee (Lecturing/Tutoring level). All teaching staff are accountable to the UniSC Adelaide Academic Director and Principal, Professor Roberta Crouch.
Areas of Subject Expertise required for teaching in the following courses/ subjects in 2025 include:
- EDU101 Human Development and Learning
- EDU103 Teaching with Technology
- EDU109 Professional Experience: Play and Pedagogy in Early Learning
- EDU110 Engagement and Behaviour in Early Learning
- EDU115 Creative Expression and Play through the Arts
- EDU118 Foundations of Numeracy
- EDU119 English Language and Literacy
The sequence of courses (subjects) will vary across the degree program
Key responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality interactive teaching to students in accordance with UniSC curricula.
- Manage the UniSC LMS for delivery of specific courses (subjects/ units).
- Create and maintain an innovative learning environment for students to meet learning outcomes and satisfactorily complete their assessment tasks.
- Identify students who are ‘at risk’ of failing a unit and assist them via the appropriate referral to the Academic Lead- Early Childhood Education and the Learning Support Coordinator.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions.
- Provide ongoing student support both face to face and online through email and the UniSC LMS.
- Assure the quality of the assessment and examinations processes as directed by the Academic Lead- Early Childhood Education.
- Support the Academic Lead- Early Childhood Education when required through administrative requirements and completion of reports.
- Adhere to UniSC policies and procedures as instructed by the Academic Lead and the Academic Director and Principal, UniSC Adelaide.
- Ensure UniSC courses are offered in compliance with all legislative and quality requirements, particularly those prescribed by the ESOS Act.
As the successful candidate, you will have:
- Completion of a PhD or Master’s degree qualification in a relevant field or equivalent accreditation and standing.
- Registration or eligibility to gain registration with the South Australian Teacher Registration Board.
- Discipline knowledge in the field of Early Childhood Education
- Experience in teaching university level courses to international and domestic students.
- Demonstrated commitment to student learning, and providing a positive student experience across all academic activities
- Knowledge of the National Code of Practice (2018) for international students
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Commitment to Teamwork
- Membership of a relevant professional body and community groups is desirable.
