About the role:

The Senior Solicitor role will provide timely legal advice and prepare high quality contracts and other legal documents including bespoke procurement agreements, funding agreements, service agreements, IP agreements, IT agreements, licence agreements, grant agreements, loan agreements, research agreements, agreement variations, deeds of novation and other terms and conditions (including bespoke contracts).

The role will provide accurate, timely and practical legal advice on a variety of legal matters from hospitals & health services, primary & community health, mental health, public health, alcohol & drugs, and ageing & aged care portfolios and projects including strategic priorities for the department. You will also be required to manage pre-litigation disputes (such as IT disputes) and oversee employment matters.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide authoritative legal advice on contracts and other legal documentation, briefings and correspondence reflecting a high level of knowledge, expertise and risk analysis.
  • ​Make decisions that establish precedents.​
  • Liaise with external stakeholders including barristers, court/tribunal staff, other government departments and agencies and professional bodies in relation to litigation and a wide range of legal and policy issues.
  • Collaborate with departmental colleagues to deliver client focused legal services, including engaging with solicitors on the State Government Legal Panel where necessary.​

Qualifications / Specialist Expertise:

  • The successful candidate must hold (or be eligible to hold) a current practising certificate under the Legal Profession Uniform Law 2014.
  • Minimum of 5 years' post admission experience is preferable.
  • The following would be beneficial:
  • Strong background in commercial law and practice.
  • Government law experience.
  • Experience with ICT contracts.
