The Markets and Securities Services (MSS) division at HSBC covers the distribution of Global Markets products and services to our Institutional and Corporate clients, provides Securities Services on both a Global and Sub-Custody basis and is also responsible for the Market Treasury department.
The role of Associate Director Business Management is a critical role, driving the safe and effective running of business functions across Corporate Sales, Institutional Sales, Securities Services and Markets Treasury. Working closely with the Head of Business Management, you will manage daily operations and issues, execute business strategy, support business transformation and regularly monitor and identify risks to the business, ensuring adequate controls to mitigate both financial and non-financial risks. You will be a curious solutions focused lateral thinker, who thrives in a past paced constantly changing environment.
This role will provide global exposure to build an international network through HSBC’s global footprint. You will support a large local team with strong connectivity to global service centres across Asia, with a critical focus on working with HSBC’s technology teams in reducing risk to the business and creating scale for the future. The role will provide the opportunity to build relationships and engage with stakeholders across all areas of the bank locally and abroad, playing a key role in transforming systems and processes.
Due to the nature of the work in this role, there is a requirement to be in the office five days per week, with flexibility for attending appointments where needed.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Operational Effectiveness – overseeing the day-to-day running of the Markets and Securities Services business to ensure efficient, effectiveness and adherence to regulatory and HSBC standards.
- Strategy and Transformation – collaborating with senior leaders within the business to develop and implement business strategies aligned with continuous improvement to the group strategic direction.
- Financial Management – monitoring and reporting on MSS financial performances ensuring budgets are maintained and identifying potential opportunities for optimisation.
- Risk Management – monitoring and identifying risks to the business, ensuring the business has adequate controls to mitigate both financial and non-financial risks to the business.
- Collaboration and Communication – leading and fostering a strong culture of engagement and collaboration with stakeholders across the business.
- Leadership – driving a strong risk culture aligned with HSBC’s values with strict adherence to governance, process and procedures, demonstrating accountability with the ability to influence key stakeholders.
- Governance – coordinating and representing the business within local and regional wider governance committee meetings and reporting back to local stakeholders.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Strong knowledge of front-to-back processes within Markets / Securities Services is essential, with experience in Markets an advantage. This capability will ideally have been developed in a large-scale business in the banking and finance industry.
- Strong commercial awareness with analytical skills to enhance standards, policies and controls, a strategic lateral thinking style with strong problem-solving capability.
- The ability to work effectively in a team, building and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, locally, regionally and globally across business functions and asset classes
- Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong knowledge of the local regulatory landscape, internal control and risk management practices, coupled with an interest in the commercialisation and risk impacts on the business.
- Experience in business transformation with a systematic approach to program execution.
- Financial and accounting acumen with a CPA qualification an advantage but not essential.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple competing priorities to meet deadlines and perform under pressure with a high attention to detail.
- The ability to work within a team environment, self-motivation and proactivity.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
