The Team:

Transit lounge was established in 2018 and has approximately 250-300 presentations a month. Within Hospitals North the Transit Lounge provides a safe clinically supervised space for patients while discharge, admission or transfer processes are being finalised. This creates capacity within wards and departments by enabling beds to be ready and filled by the next inpatient. Less commonly, the LGH Transit Lounge also provides additional capacity during times of peak demand and bed-block within the Emergency Department.

The transit Lounge team currently consists of Registered and Enrolled Nurses and a Patient Flow assistant and operates as part of the Integrated Operations Centre.

The Role - Nurse Unit Manager:

  • Provides leadership to the Transit Lounge within the Integrated Operations Centre at the Launceston General Hospital.
  • Ensures the efficient and effective provision of care, based on clinical standards and best practice principles within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework, by coordinating the clinical, management, education, and nursing research functions within the Transit Lounge.
  • Leads and manages the coordination of overall patient care and is responsible for managing the allocated human, material, and financial resources for service delivery within the Transit Lounge.

You will need to have:

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge, skills and experience of/in the management and coordination of patients within a Transit Lounge environment.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of, and experience in, contemporary nursing management practice.
  • Ability to lead the Transit Lounge team through a period of change as the Transit Lounge is redeveloped over the coming years.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 23 April 2025.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $122,365 - $129,060 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Benefits available to eligible candidates:

  • Payment of $15,000 staged over three years is available for Nurses and Midwives who move to Tasmania from interstate and remain employed full time for three years or more, on top of relocation allowance already available.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
