We have an exciting opportunity for a Maternal Child Health Nurse to join the Maternal Child Health and Immunisation team that sits within the Communities Directorate. This position will apply advanced nursing skills to deliver the universal and enhanced Maternal and Child Health Service within the guidelines of the Department of Health Maternal and Child Health Service Standards 2019, Maternal and Child Health clinical practice guidelines 2019 and the Key Ages and Stages Framework 2009. MCH nurses provide free universal primary health care to Nillumbik Shire Council families with children, from birth to school age.

A typical day involves;

  • Delivering the 10 Key Ages and Stages (KAS) visits using evidence based tools, including the Parental Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS) and Brigance screening tools
  • Promote maternal health and wellbeing by identifying families experiencing vulnerability and referring as appropriate
  • Support and strengthening the health and wellbeing of families with children aged from birth to six years by using a Family Partnership Model and strengths-based approach
  • Use of health promotion and health education strategies with children, families and communities to maximise optimal health

What you'll bring to this role;

  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered General Nurse (Division 1) and Registered Midwife, and further tertiary qualifications and experience in maternal and child health
  • Good understanding and knowledge of child behaviour, child development and family dynamics.
  • Excellent communication skills with children, families, internal and external staff, service providers and agencies
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload to meet deadlines and competing demands.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer applications including Microsoft office and CDIS
  • Self-motivation and initiative and ability to work unsupervised
  • A current Victorian driver's licence
