The opportunity The First Nations Senior Advisor role focuses on enhancing cultural competency, awareness, and safety within the organisation as part of its reconciliation efforts. The advisor will advocate for meaningful engagement with First Nations communities, fostering relationships that integrate First Nations values into projects, services, recruitment, and procurement processes. This position also involves managing collaborative partnerships with community groups and Traditional Owners to ensure benefits for the West's communities and customers.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage engagement and partnerships with Traditional Owner Groups and First Nations communities to promote awareness of GWW services and embed First Nations values within the organisation.
- Advocate for First Nations voices, integrate their engagement into broader communications, align GWW's actions with government and industry commitments, and provide advice on relevant community issues.
- Guide planning and delivering key First Nations events at GWW, support annual First Nations Calendar events, and lead projects aligned with the Reconciliation Action Plan.
- Advise on and implement First Nations training at GWW, participate in quality improvement activities to enhance cultural safety and responsiveness, educate staff on First Nations values, share learnings to promote growth, and coordinate initiatives to improve cultural competency and awareness.
- Provide strategic advice on regulatory and compliance matters, support for the Reconciliation Action Plan Steering Committee, assistance with communications for stakeholder engagement, participation in organisational meetings to develop policies and procedures, and contributions to First Nation communication and educational materials.
Skills & Experience
- Working with Victorian First Nations and/or Torres Strait Islander communities and relative partners to deliver strategic outcomes
- Engaging with senior leadership and facilitating agreed outcomes
- Experience in report writing and delivering presentations t to varied audiences

- This role will require the successful candidate to undertake a Working with Children Check (WWWC) .
