Role
As our Senior UI/UX Designer (with UX Research Expertise) , you will report directly to the Group Head of Technology & Experience . In this pivotal position, you’ll own the end-to-end user experience for both digiDirect.com.au and Booktopia.com.au , as well as any future digital properties under our group. Working closely with Product Owners, Developers, and stakeholders, your mission is to create intuitive, visually stunning interfaces that drive conversion, customer satisfaction, and brand loyalty.
You’ll also plan and execute UX research initiatives ranging from usability testing to A/B experiments to inform data-driven design decisions. This is a high-impact role with visibility across the group, ensuring that our e-commerce sites stand out in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Key Responsibilities
1. UI/UX Design
- Lead the visual design of our e-commerce platforms, ensuring a clean, modern, and cohesive look and feel
- Develop wireframes, interactive prototypes, and final UI designs adhering to brand guidelines
- Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure pixel-perfect implementation and consistent design standards
2. UX Research & Strategy
- Conduct user research (interviews, surveys, usability testing, heatmap analysis) to gather insights and validate design concepts
- Perform competitive analyses and market research to benchmark our user experiences against industry best practices
- Analyse data from Google Analytics, Hotjar, or other tools to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement
3. E-Commerce Optimisation
- Focus on conversion rate optimization (CRO) by testing and refining critical user flows (homepage, product pages, checkout, etc.)
- Design mobile-responsive interfaces that comply with e-commerce UI best practices
- Partner with product, marketing, and analytics teams to translate business requirements into user-centric solutions
4. Collaboration & Leadership
- Work with product owners and stakeholders to align designs with business goals and brand values
- Act as a design advocate, presenting concepts and rationale to cross-functional teams and leadership
- Mentor junior designers or external partners, fostering a culture of innovation and design thinking
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in UI/UX design, including UX research methods
- Proven track record designing for e-commerce platforms (Adobe Commerce/Magento, Shopify, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, or similar)
- Strong portfolio showcasing user-centered design processes, from wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes
- Expertise in design tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD) and familiarity with prototyping (InVision, Marvel, or similar)
- Experience with usability testing and quantitative/qualitative research methods
- Solid understanding of mobile-first, responsive design principles and UI/UX best practices for e-commerce
- Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) to effectively communicate with developers
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to articulate design decisions to stakeholders
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) in Design, HCI, or a related field preferred
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with PWA (Progressive Web Apps) design for e-commerce
- Knowledge of conversion rate optimisation (CRO), A/B testing tools, and analytics (e.g., Google Analytics, Hotjar)
- Experience in multi-brand or multi-store design environments
- Familiarity with SEO best practices and how design affects site performance
