Your Opportunity
You’ll contribute to Queensland’s transition to renewable energy by joining a team that is on the cutting edge of deploying new technologies , systems , and operating philosophies into the electricity network . Here, your judgment and technical expertise has real-world impact.
As our Principal Software Engineer , your combined software development expertise and RPEQ eligibility will be key to safely engineering Energy Queensland’s continued success and growth. You will be recognised as an expert and leader in distribution grid control software solutions, standards, lifecycle management, and day-to-day management of software systems associated with EQL’s Distribution Management System (DMS) and ancillary systems.
Based in Brisbane, you’ll draw on your ability to lead a technical team to support the generational energy transition where the use of software is enabling increased renewables to connect to the grid.
Amplify your impact - you’ll drive progress by:
- Being accountable for the ongoing development , maintenance , and support of in-house applications and embedded systems developed under several modern and legacy frameworks.
- Leading , mentoring , developing , and coaching a small team of specialist staff and contractors.
- Planning and implementing contemporary software development techniques into legacy environments to inform strategic decision making and investment.
- Providing specialist RPEQ advice forsoftware engineering and technology to strategic and operational workgroups to provide safe and reliable grid solutions. Your advice will start from concept and procurement stages through to construction, commissioning, and maintenance.
With either a 9 or 10 day fortnight in place, the bottom of the salary band starts from $206,634 for 9 days and $233,498 for 10 days + 14.75% superannuation .

What You’ll Bring
You will hold a Bachelor Degree in Electrical , Electronics , Computer , or Mechatronic Engineering that meets the qualification requirements of the Washington Accord. It is also essential to be a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or meet the entry requirements to gain this and are confident and capable to make engineering assessments and decisions.
Experience within a utility environment is highly desirable. You will also possess a range of technical and soft skills which will support your success.
Technical skills you can demonstrate include:
- The proven ability to lead , manage , and develop a professional engineering team .
- Knowledge in operational technology (OT) environments.
- Expert technical knowledge in developing and maintaining highly integrated, real-time, secure software applications operating within a complex environment.
- Experience in all phases of the software development lifecycle .
- Extensive development knowledge in the .NET Framework and one (or more) of the following technologies: ANSI C, C++, JAVA, C#, or Python.
Soft skills include:
- A high level of well-developed communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate with a range of key internal and external stakeholders.
- You are technical , creative ,and innovative in your problem solving , and can drive positive business outcomes to resolve technical problems.
