The Opportunity
An opportunity exists for a highly motivated, experienced and skilled Debt Recovery Officer to join our Claims, Debt Recovery and Insurance Unit, within the People and Corporate Services Division of the Department. The Debt Recovery Officer plays a key role in managing the Department’s broad debt portfolio; providing information and advice and contributing towards effective management of customer accounts and maximising recovery rates for the Department.
You will be provided with autonomy and genuine flexibility within a small team, which is focused on providing value-adding services across the Department.
The Debt Recovery Officer is responsible for timely and professional advice and services through the Department’s end-to-end debt recovery process. The Debt Recovery Officer is required to liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders, manage client enquiries, providing prompt and accurate information, and contribute to robust reporting and documentation.
About You
We are looking for a Debt Recovery Officer with:
- Strong understanding and demonstrated experience working with a collections portfolio.
- High level of attention to detail and organisation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, small-team environment.
- Excellent stakeholder liaison and relationship management skills.

Special Conditions
A National Police Check (NPC) is required prior to employment with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.
Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.
Remuneration
ASO3 - $67,589 to $72,033 pa + superannuation.
