About the role
TAFE SA is seeking a Student Counsellor to provide a professional counselling service to TAFE SA students and provide a consultancy service to our teaching staff. You will be responsible for the provision of support and referrals in the areas of mental health and wellbeing, careers, inclusion and assistance dealing with crisis. The incumbent exercises initiative and judgement and will work collaboratively with others in meeting objectives.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Experience in professional counselling services and the provision of a broad range of intervention strategies including mediation, negotiation, problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Experience working with a diverse client group including people with disabilities, at risk and from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of the national discrimination statutory framework/legislation and relevant standards and principles.
  • Knowledge of the Vocational, Education and Training sector and current issues affecting service delivery.
  • Minimum Degree level qualification in the areas of Counselling, Social Work or Psychology.

Special Conditions
The successful applicant is required to demonstrate having a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) prior to being employed. Applicants who do not hold a WWCC will need to apply at Department of Human Services (DHS).

  • Out of hours work will be required
  • Incumbent will be required to participate in the department's Performance Development Program.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia.
