POSITION SUMMARY
A Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing projects from conception through to completion. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, managing project timelines, and ensuring that all technical and quality standards are met. Significant experience in project management, comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, and capability to manage a team of engineers and Supervisors. They plan, schedule, and manage the project to ensure it's completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Demonstrating capability to manage a project independently with minimal guidance from the Construction Manager/Project Manager will be a key success factor in this role.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Project Planning and Scheduling:
• Lead and oversee projects ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
• Provide technical leadership and expert guidance to the engineering teams on complex technical issues.
• Develop project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
• Create detailed project schedules and monitor progress throughout the project's lifecycle.
• Risk Management; identify potential project risks and develop mitigation plans.
• Capability to comfortably work across multiple projects simultaneously.
2. Design and Documentation:
• Work with Clients, design engineers and stakeholders to assist with construction feasibility in system designs.
• Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including technical reports, progress updates, change orders, as-built drawings and final project handover documents.
• Review technical drawings, specifications, and check for errors and/or omissions.
3. Budget Management:
• Champion the end of month financial reviews for the project/projects
• Assist in the developing and managing of project budgets, including cost estimates and financial forecasts.
• Monitor project expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Review and approve invoices and subcontractor payment requests.
4. Procurement and Materials Management:
• Source and purchase materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
• Evaluate suppliers and negotiate contracts for cost-effective procurement.
• Ensure the timely delivery of materials and equipment to site.
5. Quality Control and Assurance:
• Implement quality control processes and standards for utility installations.
• Ensure that all engineering work complies with relevant standards and regulations.
• Perform inspections and quality checks to ensure work meets specifications and industry standards.
• Address and resolve any issues related to quality or safety.
6. Site Management:
• Monitor progress on-site, ensuring that work is carried out as per the project plan.
• Address and resolve site-related issues and conflicts with project supervisors and management.
7. Stakeholder Communication:
• Work closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams to align project goals and requirements.
• Provide regular project updates and reports on progress, budget, and issues.
• Address client concerns and ensure customer satisfaction.
8. Environmental Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits.
• Implement sustainable and environmentally friendly construction practices when possible.
9. Safety Management:
• Promote and enforce safety protocols and procedures on the construction site.
• Conduct safety audits and address safety concerns promptly.
10. Project Closeout:
• Ensure all project objectives are met before project closure.
• Conduct final inspections and hand over completed projects to clients.
• Prepare project documentation for turnover and record keeping.
11. Continual Improvement:
• Seek opportunities for process improvement and efficiency.
• Implement and promote best practices in project management and engineering to drive continuous improvement.
• Stay up to date with industry trends and new technologies.
12. People Management:
• Allocate and manage resources efficiently to meet project deadlines and objectives.
• Assists the Project Manager with people resourcing and retention to produce high quality projects.
• Aid in reviewing employees’ performance and providing feedback.
• Coach and mentor the Project/Site Engineers and other project team members

14. Skills and Qualifications:
• A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering project management, with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects.
• Strong knowledge of local construction methodologies, building codes and safety regulations
• Excellent project engineering skills, including effective planning, organising and prioritising tasks.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents, including drawings and specifications.
• Strong leadership and communication skills to assist in the management of project teams and stakeholders.
• Relevant experience in people management
• Proficiency in construction engineering software, project scheduling tools and cost estimation software.
• High level ability using Microsoft Projects and proficient experience in E.O.T. formation, presentation and close-out.
• Familiarity with sustainable construction practices and green building certifications.
• Full clean Driver’s license
• Competent in financial reporting and commercial management.
