The Western Downs Regional Council is seeking a Principal Planner to contribute to the growth of the Western Downs region. Located less than three hours west of Brisbane, the region is known for its natural beauty, vibrant communities, and thriving economy. Home to 35,000 residents across towns like Chinchilla, Dalby, and Miles, the Western Downs is a hub for agriculture, manufacturing, and renewable energy. It offers an affordable, high-quality lifestyle with a strong sense of community.
As Principal Planner, you will lead the Planning and Development team to support economic development and deliver positive outcomes for the community. Key responsibilities include managing development applications, leading planning scheme reviews, and fostering relationships with stakeholders. You will also drive process improvements and ensure projects align with Council’s goals.
To succeed in this role, you will need a degree in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent experience, along with expertise in assessing complex developments and leading teams. Private sector experience is desirable. A commitment to Council’s values of communication, leadership, respect, balance, teamwork, and accountability is essential.
This role offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including:A salary range of Level 8 - $114,228.94 (Step 1) - $128,831.29 (Step 5)17.5% leave loading on four weeks of annual leave.12% superannuation contributions.A relocation allowance of up to $5,000.Flexibility to be based in Dalby, Chinchilla, Miles, Tara, or Wandoan.Salary sacrificing options.
