The Senior Lawyer – Crime Division is responsible for providing high quality and timely legal services and support to multi-disciplinary teams conducting crime investigations including participating in the planning, conduct and oversight of those investigations. This often includes high quality legal services as counsel assisting at Commission Hearings and ensuring that crime matters are conducted in pursuit of the CCC’s strategies and objectives and within jurisdiction, making optimal use of resources and powers. You will also be expected to liaise and consult about crime and proceeds of crime matters with other CCC officers and with external agencies, including the QPS and other law enforcement bodies, the DPP and public sector agencies.About Us

- you are admitted, or eligible for immediate admission, as a legal practitioner in Queensland; and
For This Role, We Will Consider Your
- Practising experience that demonstrates:
- your knowledge of areas of law relevant to the CCC's work, including civil litigation and administrative law;
- the ability to conduct or direct the conduct of effective litigation in Queensland and Australian courts and Tribunals, particularly in civil and/or quasi-criminal proceedings and including engagement in appropriate negotiation of settlements; and
- strong advocacy skills, to effectively examine compelled witnesses in the context of CCC investigative hearings; to conduct applications before the Supreme Court in its civil jurisdiction whether ex parte or represented/contested;
- a proactive regard to the development of new criminal and civil law of relevance to the exercise of the CCC's functions and the direction of CCC officers, including the preparation and delivery of legal professional development training to multi-disciplinary teams.
- Thorough knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire thorough knowledge, of the Crime and Corruption Act 2001 (Qld), the Criminal Proceeds Confiscation Act 2002 (Qld), and the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules 1999 (Qld), the Criminal Code Act 1899 and other relevant legislation.
- Demonstrated capacity to accurately analyse complex and/or voluminous intelligence and evidentiary material against the relevant legislative framework, including public interest and human rights considerations, to robustly assess merit over the lifetime of a proceeding.
- High level verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide informal direction and prepare formal, written advice; to draft or review complex affidavits, and other court documents including applications, outlines of argument, and draft orders, and to produce or review complex reports and correspondence.
- Demonstrated capacity to:
- build and sustain positive and effective relationships with multi-disciplinary team members and key external stakeholders
- establish priorities, develop sound solutions, and participate in the development of improvements to work practices
- successfully operate under pressure and maintain objectivity in providing advice
