About us

The Department's Youth Justice Service provides programs and resources to assist young people to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to manage their lives effectively without further offending. Through supervision, offending related programs and linkages to appropriate support services, the youth justice service promotes opportunities for rehabilitation and contributes to the reduction of crime in the community.

The Youth Justice team provides community-based supervision and a range of case management and support services for young people who are appearing before, or have been sentenced by, the Children's Court and adult criminal courts and who have received youth justice supervised orders. The legal mandate for Youth Justice is provided by the Children Youth and Families Act (CYFA) 2005.

About the role

This is a hybrid role which will allow you to provide complex supervision and support to clients through managing a case load as an Advanced Case Manager whilst also fulfilling responsibilities of a Court Advice Worker, providing informed, independant and evidence based advice to assist the court in it's decision making.

Responsibilities include

  • Representing the Secretary of the Department of Justice when appearing in court
  • Manage case loads to a high standard
  • Preparing Court and Youth Parole Board Reports
  • Develop case plans/reports
  • Assist the court in decision making in areas such as bail sentancing, program suitability and appropriate diversionary options.

About You

As our ideal candidate, you will demonstrate:

  • Understanding of the principles of diversion and case work and a range of assessment and brief interventions relevant to the age, gender, developmental stage and offending related needs of young people.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of stakeholder initiatives, ability to create lasting relationships with stakeholder groups, and partners with stakeholders to broker shared solutions in new areas.
  • An advanced understanding of the principles of case management and case work and being able to utilise a range of assessment and interventions relevant to the age, gender, developmental stage, and cultural background and offending related needs of the young person.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to self manage and prioritise tasks

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Social Work or Diploma in Community Services Work is highly desirable. (Other tertiary qualifications at Diploma or above will be considered only if they include units of study in case management/casework practice and has had supervised practical work placements.)
  • A full driver's licence is required due to the need to respond to emergencies across the state at short notice and outside business hours as required.
  • A current employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card is required and will need to be provided prior to commencement of employment by the applicant. Currency will need to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
