The Operations Engineer - Electrical is responsible for driving improvements to asset performance by identifying poor performing assets, investigate excursions and, in a proactive and timely way, work with operations and delivery teams to mitigate high risk failures.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Timely response to resolve emergent operational electrical issues to safely maximise availability
- Identify opportunities to improve asset reliability and utilisation and to mitigate higher risk failures
- Prepare technical reports to effectively communicate results of investigations, opportunities for improvement and technical observations
- Implementation of improvement and maintenance outage scopes as required
- Engage and provide contractor management of external resources to support the execution of Operations Projects
- Provide support for managing interfaces between sites and various Regulatory bodies including network service providers under statutory requirements.
- Provide engineering input and oversight at key stage design and project reviews, including HAZOP, HAZID and safety reviews.
- Actively ensure own health and safety and the health and safety of others through understanding and implementing workplace health and safety obligations
- Support and comply with Company policies and procedures as advised and documented in the Company's employment policies as amended from time to time and as directed by Managers/Supervisors
- In addition to the duties set out above, the Operations Engineering Lead may be expected to perform other duties as assigned from time to time by the Company
Person Specification
- Effective customer service style and proven success in providing sound risk management service as a technical business partner
- Collaborative approach to working across teams, departments, time zones and business units
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Ability to assess complex situations and develop practical solutions
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills
- Willingness to travel to sites across Australia and potentially globally.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Formal engineering qualifications at engineering degree level in Electrical engineering with a minimum of 5 years' experience following graduation
- Experience in application of electrical engineering in industrial environments
Desirable
- Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ)
- Previous role in an operations role
- Hazardous Area Design and Classification
- Experience in power systems and earth grid analysis using modelling software
- Experience with the requirements of the National Electricity Rules for Generators
- Understanding of electrical safety, functional safety (AS61508/61511) and electrical hazardous area requirements
- Experience in industrial power generation
- Protection design & relay configuration
- Experience with transformer oil analysis & rotating machines
