About the role
Clear Mountain Fairview is seeking an experienced Thoroughbred Horse Breaker to join our farm in Greenmount, Queensland on a contract basis. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and effective breaking in of young thoroughbred racehorses, preparing them for their racing careers. This is an integral position within our horse breeding operation, with a focus on maintaining high standards of animal welfare and safety.
What you'll be doing
- Handling and training young unbroken thoroughbred horses to accept equipment, saddle and rider
- Conducting careful and gradual groundwork and under-saddle training to build the horses' confidence and obedience
- Monitoring the horses' progress and wellbeing throughout the breaking-in process
- Collaborating with the Stud Manager to ensure the best possible outcomes for each horse
- Adhering to all safety protocols and animal welfare standards on the farm
What we're looking for
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a thoroughbred horse breaker, with a proven track record of successfully breaking in young racehorses
- Excellent horse handling skills, with the ability to read horse behavior and respond appropriately
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organisational skills to manage each horse
- Commitment to animal welfare and a safe working environment
- Excellent communication skills to liaise with the Stud Manager
