About the role

Shape the future of one of Australia’s busiest airports! Sydney Airport is looking for an experienced Design Manager (Architecture) in managing architectural design and development of critical infrastructure projects. This role is central to ensuring our airport continues to deliver world-class experiences for millions of passengers while meeting operational, sustainability, and regulatory requirements.

As Design Manager, you will oversee design standards, manage consultants, and ensure projects align with our strategic vision and service excellence goals. In this role, you will

• Manage the architectural design of airport terminals, interiors, commercial facilities, car parks, and other critical infrastructure, ensuring alignment with the airport’s strategic vision and passenger experience goals.
• Adhere to airport design standards and guidelines to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with building codes, fire safety regulations, and sustainability requirements.
• Manage design consultants and multidisciplinary teams, providing oversight to ensure high-quality, functional, and cost-effective design solutions.
• Collaborate with master planning, engineering, and operational teams to integrate design seamlessly with airside and landside infrastructure.
• Oversee design timelines, budgets, and resources, balancing creativity with project constraints to achieve the best outcomes.
• Conduct design reviews to maintain quality, functionality, and service levels, identifying risks related to feasibility, construction, and regulatory compliance.
• Research and implement global best practices in airport architecture and user experience, driving innovation in design.
• Present design proposals to executives and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business needs while securing necessary approvals and feedback.
  
  

About You

• Tertiary qualification in Architecture or a related field, with at least 10 years of experience in planning, design, and delivery of key operational projects.
• Strong knowledge of major civic design.
• Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels, including executives and external partners.
• Proven ability to manage design teams, balancing quality design outcomes with budget constraints through cost control and value engineering.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• A collaborative and innovative approach, with resilience and adaptability to navigate complex challenges in a dynamic setting.
