About the Role:

Teach into the Bachelor of Education, Early Years and Primary course within the department of Arts, Education and Agritech. This is a sessional teaching position with teaching and teaching related duties. Collaborate with academic staff to support and maintain a high-quality student learning experience for domestic and international students. Contribute to the strategic development of applied research and scholarship in the higher education programs.

Duties:

Curriculum Delivery

  • To deliver the curriculum effectively through a variety of different learning strategies and platforms including online.
  • To adopt appropriate learning strategies having given due consideration to the length of the session, intended learning outcomes and the characteristics and needs of the student body.
  • To communicate effectively with students and respond appropriately to their needs.
  • To ensure appropriate student participation in the teaching and learning process in classes, exercises, case studies etc.
  • To ensure that the Course and Subject Learning Outcomes are efficiently and effectively delivered.
  • To ensure that curriculum content, learning materials and curriculum delivery give positive images of minority groups.
  • To contribute to program induction and quality assurance of programs as required by the Head of Program.
  • To support the program as required including covering sessions when academic staff are absent.

Curriculum Development

  • To participate as required in the development of the curriculum ensuring that its content is
    relevant and current for domestic and international use.
  • To contribute as required to program submissions ensuring that all deadlines are met.
  • To ensure that the curriculum meets the requirements of validating and awarding bodies (eg: TEQSA).
  • To coordinate as required, with VET department to align curriculum with Vocational Programs and develop suitable pathways for maximum student benefit.

Student Assessment

  • To develop a variety of fair, valid, reliable, accurate, professional and rigorous assessments at the
    appropriate level for subjects.
  • To ensure that all assessments are fairly marked and graded and that there is consistency between grading.
  • To develop and implement subject marking framework for assessments that clearly articulates the requirements and expectations to students.
  • To meet the deadlines set for the return of work to students and provide feedback in keeping with the HE Assessment Policy
  • To utilize those methods of assessment most appropriate to the curriculum content and learning outcomes, and as agreed by the Head of Program.
  • To attend, and participate on, Boards of Study, Academic Board, Examination Boards, or others as required by the Department Manager.

Student Management and Welfare

  • Promote and support students to be informed of codes of conduct, respectful behaviors and appropriate use of equipment and facilities.
  • To contribute to the promotion of the welfare of the students and informing them of health and safety requirements.
  • Promote student awareness of counselling guidance services and referring students to these services as appropriate.
  • Liaise with student support services where required to support positive learning outcomes for students.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • A postgraduate qualification in Education (where applicable)
  • Industry experience relevant to the content area (literacy, numeracy, or inclusive education) and academic level of curriculum being presented to students – Primary.
  • Teaching skills, including the ability to select and use a range of teaching and assessment strategies as determined by student needs. Tertiary teaching experience preferred.
  • Significant relevant professional experience in an appropriate area within the Primary school sector in Australia
  • Current Working with Children Check (Employee) – mandatory.
    Current National Police Check – mandatory.
