We are seeking a Engagement Officer/Consultant – Archaeologist / Anthropologist /Heritage to assist Vardir in fulfilling its mission and pursuing its vision.
The role is to be undertaken in accordance with Vardir’s values and behaviours to promote understanding of and respect of Aboriginal heritage, culture, attachment to land and contemporary issues in the wider community.
In this role you will work closely with clients to perform duties required in relation to your qualification, such as:
- Conducting projects, including complex fieldwork, surveys and permit application processes in close communication with Directors, government departments, clients and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to the delivery of the lands management and heritage requirements, including working with commercial proponents, and a variety of stakeholders to ensure heritage values are understood, respected and that appropriate protocols are followed as afforded under legislation and lore.
- Attend surveys, liaise with government, mining companies, other proponents, anthropologists / archaeologists, heritage service providers and other consultants.
- Review and/or prepare documents including reports, briefing papers, correspondence, submissions and advice on operational lands, heritage and cultural issues.

Status: This job is full-time position 37.5 (office) - 50 (field) based hours per week

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Tertiary qualifications in archaeology, anthropology or cultural heritage management or similar fields.
- Experience working directly with Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated ability to work within complex governance arrangements, for example through Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs), Land Access Deed(s) (LADs) and Indigenous Land Use Agreement(s) (ILUAs).
- Well-developed interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clear information to clients and stakeholders.
- Strong time management skills with an ability to work on multiple projects/meetings simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- The ability to work effectively and communicate with numerous small teams.
- Demonstrated self-motivation with initiative.
- Competence in the use of Microsoft Office applications (including Teams).
- Current and unrestricted manual driver’s license or willingness to obtain.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICIATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Current Senior First Aid Training.
- Current 4WD Training.
- Competent with GIS software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS).
