The Head of Construction Australia, New Zealand (ANZ) is a strategically significant role on the Data Center Construction team dedicated to leading, mentoring, and coaching a team of skilled Construction Managers. You will hire and lead a diverse and creative team solving fascinating problems constructing Amazon Data Centers across ANZ. You will manage a fast-moving, intelligent team of professionals delivering data center capacity to support Amazon’s growth in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland , and form part of the Asia Pacific, Japan and China (APJC) construction leadership team.

Our Data Center Construction team owns and drives the construction life cycle from project award, construction, commissioning, and ensuring a high quality, on-time product to our customers, the DC Operations team. The Senior Manager will be expected to dive deep and have construction subject matter expertise; inspire and think big about the construction management program; and support, grow, and nurture the team delivering efficient and sophisticated electrical and mechanical systems to our customers. In this role, you will influence partner teams, and AWS leadership, to deliver best-in-class data center solutions


Key job responsibilities
The Head of Construction will be responsible for:
• Hiring and developing new Construction Managers. Coach, mentor, and lead a large Construction Management team (20+ builders, including two+ people managers).
• Strategic and tactical management of construction capacity delivery within their region.
• Communicate and provide guidance to Finance during the development and execution of capital budgets.
• Coordinate with various teams supporting the data center development and launch.
• Develop and manage metrics quantifying performance across ANZ Construction.
• Coordinate with Business Development on land and facility acquisition.
• Manage the safety, speed, cost, and quality of the data center deliverable.

Additionally, Head of Construction should possess the following abilities:
• Ability and drive to learn our Data Center technology and construction process
• Ability and willingness to think creatively and build innovative solutions to reduce cost and duration with no impact on quality and reliability.
• Ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify the project scope and present the justification to management in a high-level review.
• Possess clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to use data to justify conclusions and show return on investment (ROI)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 12+ years leading development and construction of Data Center projects and/or critical infrastructure projects.
- Degree and/or professional licenses in Construction Management or Pre-Construction Management
- Experience in the design and scale of large construction organisations including directly managing teams and budgets.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers.
- Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms.
- Knowledge of Australian as well as state building codes and regulations including Fire Codes, Building Codes, Energy Efficiency Codes, Sanitary Codes and Safety Codes
- Experience in driving innovative solutions focused on reducing costs and duration with no impact on quality and reliability
