About the opportunity:

Position: Assistant in Nursing – First Nations Cadet (Identified)

Vacancy: Fixed term temporary full-time, up to 12 months, 2 x positions available

Location: Townsville University Hospital

Enjoy a generous remuneration package value up to $82,482 p.a. comprising:

  • Salary range: $2523.20 to $2762.80 p.f. (NG1-1)
  • Annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available

The Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cadetship program offers opportunities for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples studying nursing and/or midwifery to consolidate the skills and knowledge developed through their tertiary studies and develop an understanding of the health system and the role of nurses and midwives within that system.

Cadets will be provided the opportunity to experience various clinical settings through a rotational program specifically designed to meet their scope of practice and learning requirements.

Cadets are employed in a fixed term temporary position with a requirement to be engaged in full time tertiary studies necessary to acquire registration with the Australian Practitioner Health Regulatory Agency (AHPRA). The cadetship is only offered for a fixed term of one calendar year and the completion of 12 weeks (456 hrs) must take place during this timeframe. The cadet position will only work Monday to Friday day shifts only.

Requirements:

  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to work with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role. Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Tuberculosis.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted including criminal history clearance.
