We seek to appoint an experienced Head of Sport in a senior management position. This role will be responsible for the development, management and delivery of a high-quality sports program within a school environment. This is a full-time role commencing in Term 3.
About the role:
The Head of Sport plays a critical role in providing leadership, management and strategic direction of the Sports program. The role involves oversight and coordination of the management and resourcing of the sports program.
Key responsibilities include:
- Consistent with the Strategic Plan and philosophy for Cocurricular across all campuses, develop an overarching strategic and management plan for sport at Geelong Grammar School (GGS), with a clarity of purpose; establishing a clear identity, with a philosophy and framework from which individual sports operate
- Establish clear, standardised and agreed processes, procedures and templates with accountabilities for Sport department team members
- Establish shared core values and critical behaviours for the success of Sport department
- Develop and implement a school sport policy
- Lead and oversee APS Sports, AGSV, SSV, in addition to House sport (eg. House Swimming, House Cross Country, House Athletics)
- Review, Manage and coordinate the resourcing and supervision requirements for the Sports program
- including planning, recruitment, performance management, annual reviews and succession planning
- Manage and oversee all aspects of the Sport program including weekly training and Saturday fixtures
- Provide guidance to students and staff through the creation of a GGS Sports ‘Handbook’ which links in with the strategic framework and other appropriate forums and channels
- Provide opportunities for students of all skill levels to actively participate in sports, and develop an appreciation and passion for physical activity
- Prepare and manage budget allocations across the Sports program
- Apply cost consciousness (‘right’ level of spending on the ‘right’ things) to budget management. Optimise spend against approved budgets
- Attend Support Group meetings, season launches, end of season functions and AGMs as required
- Create an annual survey to assess student engagement across Sports programs
- Collaborate effectively with other GGS departments (eg. Finance, Employee Engagement, Facilities)
About you:
To be successful in this role you will need:
- Degree in Sports Management or Business Administration/Management or relevant tertiary qualifications
- Extensive experience in a senior role of sports administrator (or similar), overseeing the development, implementation and evaluation of programs
- Previous experience in a Sport Leadership role, preferably within a School environment
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing long term strategic plans, aligning the program with the overall educational goals of the organisation
- Experience in overseeing and developing programs, including setting goals, defining strategies and managing the operational aspects of sport at our School
- Previous experience managing budgets, forecasting, interpretation P&L
- Experience leading and managing a team of coaches, sports staff and student athletes
