THE ROLE
Senior Project Officer, Aboriginal Cultural Safety and Engagement is a newly created position that will be central to the Social Services Regulator's regulatory oversight of Aboriginal cultural safety within in-scope human service organisations and the regulation of in-scope Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
The position will support the Manager, Aboriginal Cultural Safety and Engagement in engaging with the Victorian Aboriginal community more broadly to maximise the Regulator's effectiveness in safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of Aboriginal services users.
This position involves the handling of challenging and confronting materials. The Senior Project Officer, Aboriginal Cultural Safety and Engagement may receive information about incidents that caused serious harm, or had the potential to cause harm, to children, young people and adults as it relates to the regulation of social services organisations. This conduct includes sexual offences and misconduct, physical violence, behaviour that causes significant emotional or psychological harm, and significant neglect.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Support the development, implementation and monitoring of a culturally safe framework that enables the effective regulatory oversight of Aboriginal cultural safety within in-scope social service organisations.
- Support the development, implementation and monitoring of a culturally safe and effective approach to the regulation of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
- Support the establishment and ongoing implementation of an Aboriginal Advisory Group to assist in the development of the Regulator's approach to the regulation of Aboriginal cultural safety.
- Support the development of guidance for service providers to establish continuous improvement frameworks that promote Aboriginal cultural safety and achieve improved outcomes for service users.
- Identify opportunities for improving compliance through effective consultation with Aboriginal and other community groups and other key stakeholders.
- Manage stakeholder and community relationships essential to the Social Services Regulator by establishing and maintaining an effective working relationship with the Aboriginal community and in-scope Aboriginal organisations.
- Provide authoritative advice on culturally safe regulatory policies, programs and plans to a wide range of stakeholders including Aboriginal communities, Social Services Regulator staff and leadership, in-scope service providers and government departments and agencies.
- Work collaboratively with, and provide advice and support to, other areas of the Social Services Regulator to maximise the overall consistency and effectiveness of its regulatory approach and strategies.
- Work in partnership, including through participating in key networks and forums, with other government departments and statutory bodies to advocate for better safety and human rights outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
