SC1 Demonstrated understanding of initiatives in student learning and the capacity to implement and evaluate learning and teaching programs in the areas of instrumental music and ensemble music programs.

SC2 Demonstrated high level instrumental music and ensemble teaching skills and the capacity to work with colleagues to continually improve teaching and learning.

SC3 Demonstrated ability to monitor and assess student learning data and to use this data to inform teaching for improved student learning.

SC4 Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and high level interpersonal skills including the capacity to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with parents, other employees and the broader school community to focus on student learning, wellbeing and engagement.

Role

Eltham High School invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced instrumental teachers of Clarinet, with the ability to teach students ranging from beginner to VCE music.

The position involves the teaching of students from year 7 to VCE in both small group and individual lessons. Experience in teaching in beginner programs is desired, alongside a thorough knowledge of both the AMEB and VCE syllabuses.

The applicant will demonstrate outstanding conducting skills and will be responsible for one or more of the school bands and chamber ensembles. This includes a responsibility for a program of rehearsals and performances that fall both within and beyond the school day.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • Provide individual and group tuition;
  • Provide tuition in classical and jazz for students specialising as part of VCE music;
  • Encourage and prepare students for examinations, concerts and eisteddfods;
  • Direct ensembles as required;
  • Contribute towards the music culture in the school community;
  • Assist the Director of Music with the ongoing management of the Instrumental Music Program; including organising school concerts, music camps, excursions and tours.
Who May Apply

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
