  • Permanent Full-Time opportunity available (9 day fortnight)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Local Laws and other relevant legislation, regulations and governing law applicable to this position.
  • Certificate IV/Diploma or equivalent in an investigatory, legal, animal management, regulatory or public health discipline.
  • Salary LGO 4 ( $79,414 - $85,123 per annum + superannuation) based on skills, qualifications and experience.

About the Role

This position plays a key role in undertaking investigations, inspections, and approvals related to state and local laws, including but not limited to public health, safety, environmental health, water usage, abandoned vehicles, overgrown properties, commercial permits, and animal management. This includes enforcing responsible pet ownership, investigating animal nuisance complaints, and ensuring compliance with local animal regulations. The role also involves working collaboratively across Council to champion our purpose of Growing Townsville and delivering the Corporate Plan in consultation with the Townsville community.

About You

Our ideal applicant will have strong investigative skills, including the ability to gather, analyse, and present sustainable evidence for prosecution in court for offences under relevant legislation. This includes preparing legal notices, compiling thorough investigation files, and ensuring procedural compliance.

The role requires well-developed written communication and report-writing skills, with the ability to research, compile, and present accurate and legally sound notices and reports. Additionally, applicants should be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and demonstrate strong computer and time management skills to support efficient investigation handling and administrative tasks.

* The Council contribution to employees' superannuation for contributing employees shall be 13.5% of the employees' ordinary time earnings subject to the employee contributing a minimum of 6% of their ordinary time earnings.
