About the Position: The position of Housing Support Worker provides holistic case management support to young people and young families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and who may present with complex behaviours and high needs. Other functions include liaising with other housing providers and other community and government organisations and networks that support young people. This position is a new position within the Youth Housing and Support (YHAS) Program alongside 8 other Housing Support Workers.

The Youth Housing and Support (YHAS) Program supports young people and young families to address issues impacting on homelessness and identify barriers that may prevent them from accessing or maintaining safe, secure and/or affordable housing. The program maintains a client-centred approach to service delivery and works with young people and young families, to discuss and implement strategies to respond to emerging needs.

The program:

  1. Supports any young person aged 16 to 25 who is homeless or at risk of homelessness to address barriers to accessing safe, suitable and sustainable housing.
  2. Provides immediate and transitional supported accommodation in 11 ICYS properties for single young people and young families (young people aged 16-25 with children in their care) who are homeless. Provide intensive case management to address barriers to accessing safe, suitable and sustainable housing. Provide property management tasks including rent collection and tenancy management tasks.
  3. Provide access to motel accommodation for young singles, young couples and young families in the most complex of housing and homelessness distress, while working closely with the local Housing Service Centre to case manage transition into longer-term accommodation outcomes.
