Job Overview:
Our client is looking for a skilled and experienced Shipwright/Boat Builder to join their growing team. If you are passionate about working on both recreational and commercial vessels, including refits and maintenance projects, this could be the perfect fit for you!
About the Opportunity:
Our client is an established provider of marine services, offering comprehensive solutions for both recreational and commercial workboats. They operate out of North Fremantle and serve a diverse client base, including research and commercial vessel operators. Their services are diverse and range from boat building, refits, teak deck fabrication, repairs, and maintenance, and they are committed to delivering the highest standards of craftsmanship and service.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Work under the direction of a Lead Shipwright to complete various boatbuilding and maintenance tasks.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, machinery, and heat treatments to manipulate different materials, including metals, wood, fiberglass, carbon fibre, and reinforced plastics.
  • Fit and install frames, fittings, safety equipment, and other structural elements.
  • Assess repair requirements and procedures for damaged vessels.
  • Perform fiberglass repairs, both structural and non-structural.
  • Assist with general vessel fit-out, assembly, and installation of parts and systems.
  • Work with materials such as fiberglass, epoxy, composites, and acrylics for repairs and finishing.
  • Assist with plumbing and rigging as required for boat builds and repairs.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in boat building or shipwrighting, with a high level of adaptability.
  • A trade certificate is highly desirable (e.g., Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction).
  • A strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliability, enthusiastic, and possess a strong work ethic.
