Circuit Jury Manager

Victorian Government
Melbourne Full-day Full-time

Description:

The Supreme Court of Victoria is the highest court in Victoria and comprises the Court of Appeal and the Trial Division. The Court deals with major criminal and civil matters, plus appeals against decisions of lower courts.
The Supreme Court of Victoria recognises that its people are integral to its ability to meet and exceed community expectations and to achieve its goal of being an outstanding superior court. We continually strive to create a high-performance workplace that is characterized by creativity, innovation, flexibility, and quality delivery.
The Juries Act 2000 establishes the role of Juries Commissioner, and its purpose is to provide for the administration and operation of Victoria's system of trial by jury. While Juries Victoria (JV) sits administratively within the Supreme Court of Victora, it operates from the County Court in Melbourne and the Magistrates' Court in regional Victoria.
JV is responsible for assessing the eligibility for jury service of approximately 300,000 Victorian citizens each year, and for ensuring a sufficient number of those citizens, broadly representative of the community, are summoned in Melbourne and regional Victoria to serve as jurors in Supreme and County Court trials.
JV is a small, highly effective team consisting of Melbourne-based and regional staff, who work closely with court registries and judges' chambers to ensure that Victoria jury system exceeds judicial and community expectations.
About the Role
One of three managers reporting to the Deputy Juries Commissioner, the Circuit Jury Manager (CJM) will have oversight of 12 regional jury districts and will be the key link between circuit operations and Juries Victoria's leadership team. The CJM will support Juries Victoria's Operations Manager with the planning and forecasting for jury trials in regional locations.
To be successful in this role, you can demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with Juries Victoria's stakeholders, problem solve and provide excellent customer service in a dynamic operational environment. You will have strong interpersonal skills and an ability to prioritise your work and provide confident and informed advice.
About You
Juries Victoria is looking for someone with energy and imagination, who approaches their work with passion and a focus on service excellence.
The successful candidate will bring a sound understanding of the operation of Victorian courts and the centrality of juries to the justice system. While no formal qualification is mandatory, demonstrated experience in working proactively and confidently with registries and judges in a dynamic operational environment is essential.
