Overview of role

ILSC Education Group is one of Australia’s largest and fastest-growing language schools, known for the quality, rigour and variety of programs that are tailored to best meet international student needs and interests. The Assistant Director of Studies (ADoS) [Afternoon/Evening] plays a key role in supporting the academic management of the school, ensuring high-quality and transformative learning and teaching experiences for English language students and teachers. Reporting to the Director of Studies (DoS) and working closely with the Head Teachers, the ADoS [Afternoon/Evening] assists in upholding the ILSC mission and core values, ensuring quality and rigour in all aspects of academic operations and regulatory requirements.


The ADoS [Afternoon/Evening] is a key member of the national ELICOS Academic Team, working closely with other Australian campus ADoSs to ensure the continued alignment, development, and overall success of their ILSC campus and of ILSC Education Group. The ADoS position requires constant collaboration with the DoS, Head Teachers, Teachers, ELICOS Admin Teams and Student Services Team, to maintain effective communication of ideas and decisions. The ADoS is calm, empathetic and approachable, with outstanding people skills and sound leadership skills. They will act as a leader within the academic team, guiding Head Teachers on ILSC policies, requirements, and expectations, supporting the DoS in academic operations, empowering others to develop and achieve, and inspiring progressive ideas and continuous improvement within the organisation.


The ADoS also works closely with the Academic, Admin and Student Services Teams, and, alongside the DoS, is instrumental in providing guidance and leadership in learning and teaching and academic operations. They will represent ILSC core values internally and externally, participating actively in sector Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Communities of Practice (CoPs).


Job Duties


Under the guidance of the DoS, and with the support of the Head Teachers, the ADoS will have responsibility in the following areas:

• Supporting and promoting the implementation of ILSC ethos, values, policies and procedures in learning & teaching and across academic operations
• Supporting and guiding Head Teachers and assisting with the leadership and management of the academic team, ensuring a collaborative, supportive and professional ethos:
o Modelling and encouraging respectful, clear, regular, and multi-directional communication
o Upholding, managing, and inspiring optimum staff performance, facilitating both collaborative and autonomous continuous professional development
o Embracing diversity and staff contributions
o Nurturing and celebrating a respectful and collegiate culture
• Assisting the DoS in teacher recruitment, onboarding, inductions and timetable scheduling
• Guiding the Academic Team in the implementation and training of ILSC’s Learning & Teaching Philosophy
• Leading the Academic Team in the effective implementation of ILSC curriculum and assessment as per Global Curriculum Team guidance
• Collaborating with the Student Services and Admin Teams on student matters including academic progress, attendance, classroom experience, study plans and queries
• Supporting student and stakeholder satisfaction, including feedback and reviews
• Assisting with the delivery of Session Meetings & Professional Development Workshops
• Overseeing content and dissemination of weekly academic and operational notices
• Coordinating Teacher classroom observations & peer observations in collaboration with the Head Teachers
• Assisting with and carrying out Teacher Performance Reviews
• Overseeing/Running Orientation, Welcome Events, Placement Tests and liaising with ELICOS Admin Team as required
• Supporting Head Teachers in Teacher relief and classroom changes as needed
• Overseeing learning spaces and resources in conjunction with Head Teachers, Resource Coordinators and IT Team
• Assisting DoS with liaising with and supporting other departments within ILSC Education Group, in mutual support of the school functions, including, but not exclusively, ELICOS Admin Team, Advisors, Registrars, Accommodation and Sales
• Supporting the DoS with maintaining regulatory compliance on campus through a sound understanding of sector and workplace requirements
• Keeping up to date with industry trends and sector shifts and innovations
• Actively engaging in the broader ELT profession, representing and promoting ILSC, and implementing learnings internally
• Teach ELICOS classes (up to 25 hours; teaching load to vary based on operational needs)
• Other related duties or projects as determined by the Campus Director of Studies or National Director


Key Selection Criteria
Education and Experience

• Recognised Bachelor degree
• Trinity CertTESOL, Cambridge CELTA, or Cert IV TESOL (or equivalent)
• DELTA, IDLTM, MTESOL (or equivalent) (desirable)
• Minimum five years’ teaching experience in quality English language institutions
• Sound understanding of compliance and quality assurance frameworks in the Australian international education sector
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to mentor and support Teachers in their continuous professional development
• Experience with student support, curriculum development, and assessment practices
