About the Barkly Region
The Barkly Region covers more than 320,000 km2 stretching from the old Telegraph Station at Barrow Creek in the south to the historical droving township of Newcastle Waters in the north. Located approximately 1000km south of Darwin and 500km north of Alice Springs. Tennant Creek has a population of 3,252 and is the largest town in the region.

Living in the Barkly
Learn about the local cultural at Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre, spend the day kayaking at Tingkkarli (Lake Mary Ann), or take a walk around the peculiar rock formations of Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles) or use your leisure time from work and take a 4WD adventure into the Davenport Ranges. There is lots to discover in the Barkly Region. With some of the most beautiful landscapes in Australia and easy access to several of Australia’s tourism icons. It’s safe to say your life will be a breeze whilst living in the Barkly.

Facilities
Tennant Creek has a well-stocked IGA and several other specialist retail businesses along with a number of cafes, pubs and clubs. Along with a private medical centre the Barkly region’s health needs are met with a 20-bed hospital located in Tennant Creek. Both a primary school and high school are located in Tennant Creek along with a new and modern Youth Centre.

The Barkly Regional Council is the second-largest Local Government by land mass in Australia. The estimated population of the Barkly Regional Council is 6,316 spread over 7 communities (2 regional towns and 5 remote communities). Employing 250 staff, of whom 67% are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, we are committed to delivering services for residents of the region.

About the Role
Are you passionate about improving community safety and wellbeing? Barkly Regional Council is seeking a dedicated Community Safety Coordinator to lead and manage the dynamic Community Safety Service, ensuring its alignment with the Community Safety and Wellbeing Program (Night Patrol) under the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet’s operational framework. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the safety and wellbeing of the Barkly region’s communities.

The Essentials
• Relevant qualifications or demonstrated experience in Community Safety/Community Engagement programs.
• Demonstrated background in remote community development.
• Current National Police Criminal History Check (within the last 3 months).
• Current Northern Territory Working with Children Check (Ochre Card).
• Current Driver’s Licence with 4WD remote area skills.

About You
• You have proven leadership and organisation skills and can demonstrate managing multiple community-focused projects, ensuring deadlines and objectives are met.
• You are skilled communicator and can build strong relationships with a wide of stakeholders, using your communications skills to foster trust and collaboration.
• You are passionate about ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the community with a deep understanding of the challenges faced by remote communities.


The Finer Details
• Full-Time position paying Level 8 Pay Point 1 of the Barkly Regional Council Enterprise Agreement 2023.
• Annual Salary of $87,014.91 per annum ($3,346.73 gross per fortnight).
• Tennant Creek Zone Allowance of $1.89 per ordinary hour.
• 11.5% Superannuation.
• Housing subsidy of up to $330 may be available to external applicants.
• Annual Leave of 6 weeks paid with 17.5% Leave Loading.
