HBT Services QLD is responsible for the overhauls of longwall machinery across QLD and operates under two (3) plants, being Overhauls, Gearbox repairs and Warehouse.
About the role:
The Mechanical Fitter Leading Hand will play a crucial role in the Gearbox workshop diagnosing, overhauling, and testing components to meet high quality standards whilst overseeing a team responsible for the strip and assessment, rebuild and assembly of all aspects of underground mining equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
The Mechanical Fitter Leading Hand , will be responsible for:
• Ensuring all work carried out is performed in a safe manner.
• Assigning tasks and projects to team members based on skill level and workload.
• Ensuring that work is completed according to the specifications, safety standards, and deadlines.
• Providing guidance and training to apprentices, helping develop their skills.
• Troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical issues.
• Conducting regular inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.
• Collaborating with other departments or teams to schedule maintenance and repairs without disrupting production.
• Keeping accurate records of work performed, including maintenance schedules and equipment history.
• Identifying opportunities to process improvements and efficiency gains.
Knowledge & Experience
• Relevant Trade Qualification or Degree Qualified.
• Have an understanding of leveling and alignment of Gear Assemblies.
• Heavy Industrial and/or Underground Mining Experience.
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong technical trade knowledge and demonstrated ability to oversee complex projects.
Remuneration:
• Terms and Conditions of Employment are as per the HBT Queensland Enterprise Agreement 2024
• $53.01 hour/full-time
• Overtime available
• 36-hour ordinary hours
• Day shift (M-T) 6:00am-2:00pm & (F) 6:00am – 12:00pm
• EA increases in 2026 and 2027
• Afternoon Shift Allowance of 15%
• Night Shift Allowance of 25%
• Weekend work shall be paid at double time for all hours
