HBT Services QLD is responsible for the overhauls of longwall machinery across QLD and operates under two (3) plants, being Overhauls, Gearbox repairs and Warehouse.
About the role:
As a Health and Safety Advisor working Monday to Friday in our workshop located in Paget. Your key role is to ensure employee safety and regulatory compliance. You will continue to drive our strong safety culture by promoting awareness, accountability, and participation in safety initiatives. Additionally, you will encourage employees to report safety concerns and engage in safety programs.
The position of WHS Advisor will be responsible for:
• Using training programs to educate employees on various aspects of Workplace Health and Safety including Take 5, workplace inspections and investigations.
• Delivering engaging and informative training & orientation sessions to employees at all levels and employment stages in the organisation.
• Keeping up to date with relevant health and safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices to ensure training materials and programs are current and compliant.
• Collaborating with management and safety personnel to identify training needs based on job roles, workplace hazards and incident trends.
• Serving as a champion for workplace safety by fostering awareness, accountability and a proactive approach to hazard identification and risk mitigation.
• Creating and implementing workplace health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and promote a safe work environment.
• Conducting regular risk assessments and inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective action.
• Investigating accidents, injuries, or near-misses to determine root causes and develop strategies for prevention.
• Developing and implementing emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid protocols, and communication strategies.
• Coordinate workplace injury management to achieve optimum results in terms of the timely, safe and durable return to work for workers following workplace injuries.
• Weekly KPI to include Safety Interactions and Workplace Inspection Audits.
• Delivery and shared presentation of monthly toolbox talks.
• Conduct random drug and alcohol testing.
About you:
Qualifications:
• Relevant industry experience.
• Certificate IV WHS
• 3 or more years in a similar position.
• I-CAM Lead Investigators course training is highly desirable.
• Drug and Alcohol testing qualification is highly desirable.
Previous Knowledge & Experience:
• Prior experience in Workplace Health and Safety, preferably in an industrial manufacturing setting.
• Strong understanding of Workplace Health and Safety principles, regulations, and industry standards.
• Strong understanding of Workplace Health & Safety Regulations within QLD.
• Familiarity with instructional design principles and adult learning theory.
• Detail-oriented with strong organisational and time management skills.
• Flexibility to adjust training approaches and materials based on the needs of different audiences and changing regulatory requirements.

• Strong communication skills both verbally and written.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
• High attention to detail.
• Ability to write workplace policies and reports.
• Ability to travel when required.
• Presentation skills.
• Strong relationship management skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders.
• Strong value for safety of self, others and environments while at work.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and experience with learning management systems (LMS) or other training platforms is preferred.
