About the role – Casual
As a Support Worker at WestCare Centre, you’ll be part of a close-knit, flexible team dedicated to making a real impact. Your role will be centred around understanding the unique needs of our clients and connecting them with the right services, whether through internal housing referrals or external support options. While you’ll provide personal support and advocacy, you won’t be handling casework. You’ll also play an important role in creating a safe and positive environment, using your strong relationship-building skills to proactively address any challenges and ensure the Centre remains a welcoming space for all.
Key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
- Build and maintain rapport with clients by building trust and respect.
- Provide brief early intervention and if required refer client to appropriate Baptist Care, or other external services relevant to client needs
- Assist Outreach Worker to locate and identify rough sleepers.
- Provide advice, advocacy, assessment, and referrals as appropriate, including discussion of crisis accommodation options, and securing of crisis accommodation and other housing options.
- Undertake initial and ongoing assessment of clients.
About you:
You’re compassionate, patient, and able to build trust with clients from diverse backgrounds. With strong communication skills and a calm demeanour, you handle challenging situations professionally. You’re a team player, adaptable, and dedicated to supporting others with a focus on creating a safe, welcoming environment.
You will also have the following skills and experience:
- Certificate IV in Community Services or similar
- Extensive relevant experience will be considered in lieu of qualification
- Demonstrated understanding of issues relating to people who have experienced homelessness and marginalisation
- Experience in providing services to marginalised people experiencing homelessness, addiction or mental health issues
Specific Requirements:

You will be required to have, or be willing to obtain:
- A current and valid DHS: Child-Related Employment Screening/WWCC
- A valid National Police Check issued within the last 3 months
- Training – Apply First Aid (min HLTAID003)
- Training – Child Safe Environments
- Ability to work outside of normal office hours will be required
