Who We Are:
Yipirinya School is one of only a few Independent Aboriginal Community-Driven Schools in Australia. It was founded by Indigenous Elders in Alice Springs and remains under the control of a 100% Aboriginal Board. Your Next Opportunity:
Yipirinya School is looking for three full-time Senior Teachers based in Alice Springs, NT . One teacher will teach oversee years 1,2 and 3, another years 4, 5 and 6, and another years 7, 8 and 9. These positions are NOT classroom teaching positions, you will provide mentorship and support to more junior staff.
Reporting to the Principal , the Senior Teachers will play a critical role in supporting curriculum implementation, student engagement, and positive behaviour support approaches.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing leadership and coaching to primary staff in the development and implementation of quality curriculum and assessment procedures.
- Ensuring high-quality teaching practices aligned with the Australian Curriculum and the school’s educational priorities.
- Supporting student wellbeing through positive behaviour support approaches and trauma-informed pedagogy.
- Collaborating with the Principal and leadership team to drive school improvement initiatives.
- Assisting with professional development and mentoring of teachers to build instructional capacity.
- Leading the development and review of school policies, procedures, and strategic planning.
- Fostering collaboration among staff, students, and the wider school community to enhance educational outcomes.
This role will require strong leadership, mentoring skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality education in a culturally diverse and remote school setting.
What You Will Bring to the Team:
To qualify, you will need full Northern Territory Teacher Registration (TRB NT) or the ability to obtain it. You must also have prior experience as a Senior Teacher or a leadership role in a primary school setting.
A deep understanding of Aboriginal cultures , Northern Territory education regulations , and curriculum development expertise will also be essential.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Experience working with Aboriginal communities and remote schools
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and support teachers
- Strong curriculum development and implementation expertise
As our ideal candidate, you will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills , as well as resilience, adaptability, and cultural awareness to support teachers and students in a meaningful way. Your strategic thinking, problem-solving abilities, and leadership skills will be crucial in ensuring positive educational outcomes.
Candidates with experience working in Central Australian Aboriginal communities and an understanding of the diverse cultural groups in the region will be highly regarded.
