About the role
The Leading Orchard Hand - Irrigation is responsible for the operating and maintenance of irrigation equipment used to grow the walnut crop on our Leeton Orchard. The Leading Orchard Hand - Irrigation will at times supervise other staff as they carry out their duties. Reporting to the Orchard Manager, the role is varied and requires someone who understands the wide-ranging and changing environment of a large-scale orchard. Flexibility to be on-call is important in this role.
Overtime is available.
Duties include but not limited to
- Driving WHS policies and procedures
- Weekly irrigation plan execution
- Ordering irrigation parts
- Monitoring/Maintaining soil probes
- Manual soil moisture checking
- Executing the irrigation scheduling
- Irrigation system maintenance flushing, pressure tests, repair leaks
- Irrigation system flushing, peroxide dosing
- Executing fertigation
- Assisting with other orchard tasks as required
- Accurate record keeping
- Pump shed house keeping
- Training employees
Essential Criteria, Skills and Experience
- Valid driver’s licence
- HR licence desirable
- Basic understanding of horticulture production (spraying, harvesting, irrigation, fertiliser, pests, fungus etc.)
- Knowledge and skills in preventative maintenance and small repairs.
- Capable of performing the necessary install and adjustment of irrigation field equipment.

What You Should Know About Our Operations
Our business is widespread, growing walnuts and almonds in the Riverina Region in New South Wales, pecans in Moree and macadamias, avocados, mangoes and lemons in Bundaberg, Queensland.
Off the paddock, we operate nut processing and packing facilities in Leeton, Toowoomba and Bundaberg as well as fruit packing and processing in Bundaberg. In addition, our shared services teams (Finance, Sales, ESG, Safety and People & Culture) are located across all of our sites as well as the Brisbane, Melbourne and Griffith offices.
