Our client is a leading transport and logistics provider with a long-standing history in the industry. They operate a large fleet of trucks, specializing in freight distribution for major national clients. With multiple depots across Australia, they are committed to delivering high-quality logistics solutions and expanding their operations to meet evolving industry demands.
The Depot Manager will be responsible for overseeing all operations within the Melbourne depot, ensuring efficiency, safety, and high levels of service. The role requires a strong leader with exceptional people management skills , operational expertise, and the ability to drive performance in a 24/7 logistics environment .
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all depot operations, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning across all areas.
- Manage and optimize depot workflow, ensuring effective freight allocation and compliance with relevant industry standards.
- Lead, develop, and motivate a high-performing team, ensuring that all employees are engaged and meet performance standards.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, operational procedures, and relevant legislation.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, aiming to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs where possible.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess operational performance and develop strategies for improvement.
- Address and resolve operational issues and customer complaints promptly to ensure high service levels.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination of logistics operations.
- Be available outside of standard hours for urgent operational needs, including after-hours support.
- Manage depot resources, ensuring proper maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and other assets.
- Ensure effective communication within the team and with other departments, providing updates and resolving issues as necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field (preferred).
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Transport and Logistics qualifications, WHS certifications) are a plus.
- Proven experience as a Depot Manager or in a senior operational role within the transport and logistics sector.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a team.
- In-depth knowledge of depot operations, freight allocation, and compliance with industry regulations.
- Willingness to be available outside of standard hours for urgent operational needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in using logistics management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to travel interstate occasionally (1-2 times per year).
