Your role

As Senior Underwriter, Motor you are a key member of the Insurance Team within the Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions division. You use your understanding of VMIA client needs and relevant industry experience to provide specialist advice and exercise sound judgement regarding the provision of effective products and service solutions across the Motor portfolio.

Reporting to the Portfolio Manager, Property & Motor, this is an exciting Senior Underwriter (Motor), Ongoing opportunity.

What you do

•You build and maintain specialised and expert knowledge in Motor insurance including product and underwriting practice, broader insurance market offerings and recent legal developments.

•As a key team member, you also support the Portfolio Manager across other insurance lines within the Insurance Team to improve service offering and business practices.

•You support the Portfolio Manager, to ensure availability of contemporary, commercially comparable, and fit-for-purpose Motor insurance products and solutions which are cost effective and deliver value to clients.

•You support the underwriting and risk engineering of the motor fleet renewal activities through the facilitation of motor renewal risk information, reviewing claims histories and assisting in the preparation of reinsurance submissions.

•You manage and respond to clients and third-party providers on transactional motor insurance queries and provide accurate technical advice and support in a timely manner

•You support the Risk Advisory and Enterprise Systems teams with the insurance questionnaire and validation process to identify omissions and irregularities to ensure adequate insurance coverage for motor assets and liabilities.

Who you work with:

VMIA clients

You provide a professional standard of service and support to VMIA clients through timely advice and responses to all queries, including policy coverage, quotations and endorsements.

Insurance service providers

You liaise with insurance service providers including brokers, underwriters, reinsurers and risk engineers to ensure optimum product coverage, risk engineering services, benchmarking and reinsurance outcomes for VMIA and its clients and to maintain required levels of knowledge of the wider market.

About you

•You have demonstrated experience working within the broking, underwriting or other relevant area of insurance (a minimum of five years’ experience is highly desirable)

•Strong knowledge of all parts of motor insurance and a strong understanding of market coverage, policy terms conditions and exclusions of commercial insurance products is highly desirable

•Proven experience knowledge of the reinsurance market, including program structures and how to achieve value for money outcomes

•Have a professional service approach, with demonstrated commercial acumen and skills in data and business analysis

•You have excellent relationships with personnel across the insurance sectors, both public and private industry, help to build and contribute to increasing knowledge, information, skills and practice to VMIA

•You promote and actively contribute to a strong culture of client service, professional excellence, respect and teamwork

Qualifications

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or Insurance professional qualifications is highly desirable. Membership with ANZIIF or equivalent professional body is highly desirable.
