About the program

The Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) is a state wide program that supports people with a severe mental illness to live and recover in the community in the way that they want to. HASI works in collaboration with Community Mental Health teams to help people identify and work towards meeting recovery goals, and provides psychosocial support to assist in capacity building.

Selection Criteria

  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Mental Health OR Certificate IV Mental Health Peer Work OR able to demonstrate working toward these qualifications OR able to demonstrate commensurate experience
  • Demonstrated experience/knowledge in providing psychosocial support to people with mental health challenges
  • Experience in building long lasting partnerships in the community while working in collaboration with other external services
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and individuals
  • Experience in working with diverse groups including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, refugee groups and LGBTIQ groups will be highly regarded
  • Rights to work in Australia
  • Rights to work in Australia and a current and valid Driver’s License
  • Satisfactory Police Records Check [less than 12 months old] and Working with Children Check, prior to commencement – or willing to obtain
  • NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) Worker Orientation Module Certificate is mandatory prior to commencement: https://www.ndiscommission.gov.au/workers/support-for-workers/training-course
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check (NDISWSC) is mandatory prior to commencement

Desirable Skills / Attributes

  • Experience in delivering outreach support
  • Case management
  • Contemporary understanding of mental health challenges
  • Understanding of psychosocial support, person-centered care, dignity of risk, and duty of care
  • Highly developed communication skills (verbal, non-verbal, and written)
  • Experience working in collaboration with families, carers, clinical teams, and other stakeholders
