About the role
As a Senior Legal Counsel within Transurban's Commercial Resolution & Disputes Legal team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality legal advice to various parts of the Group. You will ensure that legal obligations are met and legal risks are effectively managed, all while aligning with the Group’s business objectives and protecting its interests and reputation.
You’ll join an innovative team who provide strategic legal advice on a broad range of issues, including major construction projects, regulatory matters and the management of claims and disputes.

Day-to-day, you will:

Provide strategic legal advice on the prevention and management of claims and disputes

Assist with strategic projects aligned with the business’ growth agenda

Ensure the Group’s objectives are met when negotiating, advising on, drafting and reviewing agreements and while overseeing the delivery of contracts and major projects

Assist with the management of claims, disputes and litigation for entities in the Transurban Group
-
Collaborate with other lawyers across the legal team and executives with strategies and negotiation of any settlement of claims or disputes

Maintain an in-depth understanding of the key agreements for the Group and governing legislation

Ensure that the appropriate Head of Legal and Group General Counsel are made aware of material legal and commercial risks and outcomes in a timely manner

Assist with risk management and compliance
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:

Ideally 6+ years post admission experience within a top-tier law firm or in-house with relevant experience in disputes and claims management
-
Experience in commercial litigation and/or construction disputes and claims management, including prudent claims resolution strategy is required

Law degree and qualification as a lawyer in Australia or comparable jurisdiction
-
Admission as a solicitor in Australia and current practicing certificate
-
Deep understanding of dispute resolution processes across varied forums
-
An excellent team player but also able to work autonomously

Highly developed communication skills

A practical and pragmatic thinker with a commercial focus
