CRC is excited to be recruiting an Accommodation Inclusion Project Coordinator to lead Stage 1 of a new initiative aimed at reducing stigma and discrimination around formerly incarcerated people.

The Opportunity
We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Project Coordinator to lead Stage 1 of a six-month feasibility study in the Coffs Harbour region. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for mapping the local service landscape and conducting preliminary discussions to determine whether there is a need and any appetite locally for the second stage of the project. Stage 2 will focus on increasing criminalised people’s access to accommodation by working with local services – utilising advocacy, training and capability-building skills – to increase their understanding of the issues facing people on release from custody and enhance their ability to successfully engage with criminalised people.
During the feasibility study the Project Coordinator will connect with key players in the Coffs Harbour region – including supported accommodation services, housing providers, and local and State government stakeholders – to identify the barriers to mainstream service access for criminalised people, with a focus on the complex transition from incarceration into housing in the community. The Project Coordinator will meet with representatives of mainstream services to discuss the community safety, financial, and human-rights benefits of providing people on release from prison with equal access to accommodation, and to highlight the various funding streams associated with working with this client group.

To join us you’ll need:
  • Experience in desktop research
  • Ability to interpret high-level documents such as the local housing strategy and infrastructure plan
  • A solid understanding of the criminal legal system in NSW and the challenges facing people on release from custody
  • Knowledge of accommodation and housing sectors
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to speak persuasively and advocate on behalf of criminalised people in a range of forums, including local council and mainstream services
  • Ability to author concise reports and project documentation
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently
  • A current NSW Driver Licence
  • A current NSW Working with Children Check and Criminal Record Check (please note, a criminal record is not a barrier to being considered for a role with CRC)
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and knowledge of issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD communities
  • The unrestricted right to work in Australia
Why we're requesting police checks for this role
We request these checks as anyone entering a correctional centre must undertake a criminal records check to gain authority to enter.
Please note, however, that having a criminal record is not a barrier to being considered for a role with CRC.
