The Salvation Army (Salvos) Youth Services encompasses a range of programs for vulnerable young people, their families, and the community. Our services have a strong focus on prevention and early intervention and enable access to safe accommodation options, Holistic case management, community outreach programs and programs that teach vital independent living skills. About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and dedicated Youth Support Worker for our Bundaberg Youth Refuge! You will deliver a safe, secure and clean environment for the client group in a 24 hour accommodation setting.
Reporting to the Manager, this is a permanent part-time position, 15 hours per week, based in Bundaberg, QLD.
Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Crisis Award Level 1.


You will successfully
  • Develop effective and supportive relationships with clients, ensuring that each client is treated with respect, dignity and confidentiality
  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate appropriate life skills and other appropriate programs for clients
  • Provide information and referral service to non-government and statutory organisations, community organisations and individuals as required
  • Escalate any critical incidents to the team leader
  • Provide direct support to clients using a case management framework
  • Assist clients to carry out their support plan, and monitor and review the plan in line with the service policy and procedure
  • Requirement to work sleepover shifts as part of assigned roster (full/part time employees)

You will have
  • A qualification in social work, youth work, community work or equivalent
  • Experience working with young people who are homeless and/or in crisis within a Case Management Framework
  • Experience working with young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and religions
  • An understanding of the issues faced by people experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, mental ill health and other disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with unpredictable situations and behaviour, violence and problems associated with homelessness, substance abuse and mental health conditions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; participate in the collection of data and report writing
  • Competent in Microsoft Office
  • A demonstrated ability to carry out duties in a timely and efficient manner within a team environment and autonomously
  • Ability to use active listening skills, make an assessment on a crisis situation and use crisis intervention principles including conflict resolution within the community
  • QLD Driver's Licence
  • QLD Working with Children's Check (Blue Card)
  • First Aid Certificate
