About the role
Mater Hospital Brisbane are seeking Operating Theatre Assistants (Orderlies) to join our Perioperative team in South Brisbane. The Operating Theatre Assistant is a part of the perioperative team delivering consistent, high-quality care to adult and obstetric patients undergoing surgery.
We are recruiting to positions in a permanent full-time capacity . This position supports our daily operations, and successful candidates need to be available for a 24/7 roster.
Salary range: $34.02 - $35.66 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
- Setting up the theatre for surgery with the required equipment
- Patient positioning and transfers
- Clean contaminated equipment and other used items as required
- General housekeeping duties e.g. cleaning beds, organising linen, restocking of equipment, and waste management

Essential criteria
- Work as an active team member to support all work tasks
- Strong communication skills
- Commitment to ongoing service excellence
- Ability to prioritise and organise work with minimal supervision
- Available for a 24/7 roster
Desirable criteria
- Currently hold a Certificate III in Health Care Support (Operating Theatre Practice) or Certificate III in Health Services Assistance
- Minimum of two years previous experience in an Operating Theatre Assistant role would be highly desirable
