The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of the largest providers of homelessness services across the country. Our philosophy is that every person should be afforded dignity and respect and that no one should be without a safe, affordable, and secure home. We provide services and supports to adults, and families with accompanying children in the form of accommodation, case management, assertive outreach, financial assistance, community connection and referral services.
Foley House is part of a community support team that helps 45 single men experiencing homelessness in Footscray. These men face challenges such as trauma, mental health, substance use, and chronic health issues. The goal of Foley House is to promote independence by using person-centered approaches. The program focuses on helping residents maintain good health, improve well-being, and build skills to reach their potential
About the role
We are seeking a values-driven Community Support worker for our Foley house programm in a Casual capacity. Reporting to the Program Manager this is a Casual, full-time role, located in Footscray, Victoria.
You will successfully
- Provide a therapeutic, safe living environment for residents
- Use trauma-informed, strengths-based practices
- Apply advanced interpersonal skills, including negotiation, conflict resolution, decision-making, and early intervention
- Ensure accurate client data recording in SAMiS for program planning and DFFH requirements
- Contribute to the development of program guidelines for improved service delivery
- Participate in training and professional development to enhance skills
- Engage in performance planning and reviews with the manager
- Maintain accurate timecard records in the Kronos payroll system
- Perform other related duties as required
You will have
- Minimum Diploma qualification in Community Support Services or related field
- Experience and knowledge of housing and homelessness sector.
- Empathy: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds experiencing homelessness
- A comprehensive understanding of the issues that lead to homelessness and knowledge of the
- Homelessness Service system
- A national police record check is required.
- A current Working with Children Check or relevant state equivalent is a mandatory requirement.
- Full Victorian Drivers Licence
- Covid certification
- First Aid Certification: Level 1 and 2
- Verification of Qualifications & certifications is required prior to commencement in the role.
- Disclosure of pre-existing health conditions that may impact on fulfilling position requirements.
