About GCASA:
Gippsland Centre Against Sexual Assault (GCASA) provides comprehensive sexual assault support and treatment services across Gippsland. Culturally inclusive, GCASA supports diverse communities and operates within a framework protecting rights and dignity. Services include counselling, information, resources, group work, and professional training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in the GCASA on-call afterhours roster of shifts covering weeknights and weekends and all hours of a public holiday.
- Provide crisis care to people who have recently experienced sexual assault, and or Family Violence, their families and/or significant others, and/or people who have experienced family violence and their children. Support and assistance provided will include crisis interventions, psychological first aid, advocacy, risk assessment and safety planning, material aid, information, and appropriate referrals.
- Abide by current GCASA Crisis Care and Family Violence legislative requires, protocols and all policy and procedures.
- Be familiar with, and competent in, culturally appropriate risk assessments, interventions, and support.
- Maintain currency of all mandatory regulatory checks and driver licence.
- Participate in the ongoing development, including required training activities to meet mandatory minimum qualification requirements of the role.
- A commitment to time allocation for completion of required training.
Key Selection Criteria.
- Understanding of the nature of sexual assault and family violence, and the impact of sexual assault and family violence on victim/survivors and their children.
- Qualifications of Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent, or commitment to work toward minimum training requirements and/or completion of an RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning).
- Provision of a current National Police Check and a Working with Children’s check and current driver licence and access to a reliable vehicle (for on-call purposes).
- Live within 45 travel time of Latrobe Regional Hospital and the Morwell MDC.
- Commitment to cover weekday and weekend rostered shifts, including public holidays if it falls on your rostered shift.
- Demonstrated assessment and crisis response skills, including an understanding of psychological first aid, and experience and/or knowledge of crisis intervention.
- Demonstrated advocacy skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work competently and autonomously in challenging situations.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment, with high level interpersonal and communications skills.
Desirable but not essential for Performance of the Position
Experience and/or knowledge in working with:
- Young people and families
- People with psychiatric or intellectual disabilities
- People from culturally and linguistically diverse communities
- People from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- Experience in working with interpreters.
- Knowledge about relevant health and legal issues
- Experience in MARAM risk assessment
Additional Requirements:
- Six-month probationary period with regular supervision
- Current Fit4Work, National police check, Working with Children’s check.
