Western Plains Correctional Centre (Western Plains) is Victoria's newest maximum-security correctional facility, designed to house up to 1,248 people in custody.
Western Plains is a multi-purpose facility that adapts to the evolving needs of Corrections Victoria. It features purpose-built modern amenities including medical wards, a cultural centre and vocational training facilities. It utilises cutting-edge technology to keep the facility secure, allowing staff to focus on supporting the rehabilitation of people in custody.
Western Plains will open mid-2025 and Corrections Victoria are now recruiting key roles to help shape the future operations of the facility.
About the role
Western Plains will operate several prison industries that provide services and products for the prison system as well as the public. People in custody at Western Plains will undertake employment in these industries during their sentence.
As the Industry Officer, you will contribute to the effective operation of a production or service industry within Western Plains. You will work with a team including staff and people in custody to achieve production goals and ensure high standards of safety and efficiency. You will coach, motivate and mentor prison workers to enhance their skills for successful employment post release.
There are multiple positions available across several industries at Western Plains, including food service, laundry, warehouse, metal, metal fabrication, snap frozen production and grounds/environmental services. Upskill training is available to appropriate candidates upon the completion of pre-service training.
You will:
- manage stock, materials, and financial records
- develop, implement and review industry processes
- maintain a positive working environment
- ensure compliance with OHS and prison industry procedures.

About you
We are looking for people with experience in a variety of trade and service industries. Qualifications are desirable but not required. Computer literacy and proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite is desirable.

You must be willing to complete Corrections Victoria pre-service training. Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial) and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is desirable but not required.
